Who we are looking for:
We are looking for students from all degree programs who are enthusiastic about aviation. No previous knowledge is required, you learn everything you need to know from the more experienced members. Most of the work takes place in the workshop. However, we are also always urgently looking for new people to work in public relations, IT, sponsoring and many other areas of responsibility. We have a job for everyone! The only important thing is that you are motivated, have the time and are prepared to take on responsibility.
Important information for English speakers:
Even though we are happy to welcome English-speaking students, the German Aviation Act (LuftVO) stipulates that all glider radio communications must be in German. Flight training can therefore only take place with a solid knowledge of German.
1. Get in Touch
We meet every Thursday at 8 pm in our workshop at KIT Campus West to discuss our current progress and upcoming tasks. Simply join in and get in touch with us.
2. Getting to Know Each Other
Introduction to the work in our workshop
- When tasks for the coming week are assigned at the group meeting on Thursdays, look for an Akaflieger to give you an introduction to the workshop. Arrangements are made for the coming week to carry out various tasks together. The Thursday meeting is therefore very important for finding your way around the Akaflieg!
- Our clerk will ask you to complete various forms (liability limitation declaration, declaration of pending criminal proceedings).
- You now have the status of a so-called “Interessent” (prospect).
- It is important to be persistent now and to actively seek out tasks and work on them to the best of your ability.
- After around 50 to 100 hours, you have the opportunity to receive a workshop key. Now you can pursue your tasks with completely free time management.
- After 100 hours of work and successful participation in internal theory lessons and practical flight training can begin (German language skills required).
3. Admission as an Active Member (“Aktiver”)
- The general meetings of the Akaflieg take place in June and December. It is possible to apply for membership at these meetings. During the introductory phase, active and prospective members can get to know each other, so that it is now clear whether they fit together or not.
- Once you have been accepted, you are a so-called “Aktiver” (active member) and have full voting rights at the general meetings and can be elected to the board.
